Law Week is all about justice, connection and community, and there was no better way to kick it off than by bringing together leaders of legal associations to talk about joint solutions to common challenges.
Held at Lawson Flats on Monday, 19 May and chaired by President Gary Mack and CEO Kate Wellington, the gathering was the perfect forum to discuss shared areas of purpose and how we can best support each other.
Thanks to the Law Society of Western Australia for inviting to this inaugural event. We look forward to joining you at many more of these events, aligning our interests and form a united front for the benefit of the legal profession.

Building Bridges: SAALI attends WA Police Commissioners Morning Tea for African Community Leaders

On 15 May, representatives from SAALI had the privilege of attending the annual WA Police Commissioners Morning Tea for African Community Leaders. The gathering brought together key voices from across the African diaspora and the Western Australian Police Force, offering a valuable platform for open dialogue, mutual learning and community connection.
Held each year, the event underscores the importance of cultural understanding in enhancing community safety. This year’s discussions were especially meaningful, as community representatives presented on critical topics such as cultural sensitivities, barriers to communication, and ways to overcome common misunderstandings.
We also had the chance to engage directly with cadets and serving officers, learning more about their career journeys. It was both inspiring and encouraging to see a growing number of individuals from African backgrounds choosing to serve in the WA Police. Their stories reflected not only a deep sense of purpose but also a clear message: diversity strengthens our institutions and enriches our shared future.
A morning well spent — filled with conversation, connection, and a shared commitment to building safer, more inclusive communities.
